Areas of Expertise
Commercial Law

Keeena earned her Law degree cum laude from the University of the Free State in 2019 and pursued advanced studies by completing her LLM in International Economic Law in 2021. Her LLM focused on the regulation of free trade between nations, with her dissertation titled:

“Dispute Settlement Mechanisms in the African Continental Free Trade Agreement: Lessons from the WTO Crisis.”

Her research critically evaluates the efficiency of the dispute settlement mechanism established under the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) compared to the now-defunct WTO dispute settlement mechanism. She emphasizes the importance of this mechanism in advancing the AfCFTA’s primary objective: increasing intra-African trade to boost the economies of African nations. However, she also warns that an ineffective mechanism could hinder progress and exacerbate the economic struggles facing African economies.

Keeena’s research reflects a nuanced understanding of international trade law and its complexities, as well as her commitment to promoting sustainable economic development across the continent through effective legal frameworks.
